In 2022, Founder and Managing Attorney Jeremy Evans at California Sports Lawyer® launched the first of its kind California Sports Lawyer® Negotiation Competition at the world-famous Rose Bowl Stadium, in Pasadena, California, featuring JD, LLM, and MBA students on teams of two from the same university, including entertainment, media, sports law and business management topics. Evans also founded the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition in 2009 and it is still being held. In 2025, the third annual California Sports Lawyer® Negotiation Competition will be held on March 6-7, 2025, at the Rose Bowl Stadium.
All net proceeds from the competition will benefit the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation (EIN-01-0972999) and the preservation, protection and enhancement of the Stadium's future as a National Historic Landmark as it prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games, the annual College Football Playoff, and more.

Registration for one team: $1,000. $1,200 after 1/1/2025. Third team member fee: $500. Traveling coaches and faculty advisors: $300.
Includes: Negotiations will be held in the iconic Terry Donahue Pavilion suites overlooking the field at America’s Stadium. Guest speakers from the industry, networking, panelists from the industry and tours inside the stadium and on the field are included as part of the agenda. Prizes awarded to top four teams + Rose Bowl swag for all participants. Industry and celebrity judges. Food, beverage, symposium/speakers, and events as outlined below.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM - Lunch in the California High School Football Hall of Fame (Stadium – Tunnel 20)
1:00 - 2:35 PM -- Round 1
3:00 PM - 4:35 PM -- Round 2
4:45 PM – 7:00 PM – Tours of stadium and the field; Mixer (heavy appetizers and drinks); Keynote/Symposium. The teams who advance to the Final Round will be announced. Confidential information will be distributed to the final teams. Announce Best Advocate Award and other awards. *Thursday evening, offsite event/mixer.

Notes about the competition:
Three (3) judges per negotiation. The first entertainment, media, and sports law negotiation of its kind. Negotiation between two sets of JD/LLM/MBA students for each side. Role play as representatives for client, negotiating a contract for their client (team vs. player, business vs. business, etc.). Except for the final round, each team of two to three students from each school is provided general and confidential facts in advance of the competition (A versus B sides). Three rounds (1, 2, and final). Rounds 1 and 2 are preliminary to the final round.
Potential Negotiation topics: Negotiation between a top college-bound quarterback to a university with NIL, a film distribution agreement negotiation between a studio/streamer and a producer, and a music licensing deal for a video game.
Past competitions: 2024 and 2023.

About the Rose Bowl Stadium: The Rose Bowl is located in Pasadena, California. The Stadium opened in 1922 and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark. Renowned sports announcer Keith Jackson referred to the Rose Bowl as the "Grandaddy of them all." Sports Illustrated ranked the Rose Bowl as the number one college football stadium of all time. The UCLA Bruins football team calls the Rose Bowl Stadium their home since 1982 and the venue is an annual host to the College Football Playoff. It will host its third Olympic Games in 2028.
