The Olympics in Los Angeles, California, during the Summer of 2028 has the potential to be the most epic of Games. The combination of great weather, beaches, golden Hollywood history and stars, existing iconic sports venues, and some of the best vistas in the world provide the platform for a terrific opportunity to deliver LA 2028 is a very fashionable manner. There are several factors that must be managed, monitored, and developed to ensure success.

Transportation geography

Los Angeles traffic is notorious for being difficult to navigate. There are too many cars on too few freeways that are too congested at the same times daily. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“Metro”) has had plans in play to extend the Purple “D” line westbound from downtown Los Angeles to Westwood near UCLA and adding a new Magenta “K” line south to Los Angeles International Airport (“LAX”) that connects from the Gold “E” or Expo line. As the current subway system stands (yes Los Angeles has a subway/underground system) and the lines being built along with the existing bus routes will make it possible to reach almost every major venue in the Los Angeles area for the 2028 Olympic Games. The successful completion of these lines will ease traffic and for perspective it will take 25 minutes to go from downtown Los Angeles to West Los Angeles—a trip by car that could take over two hours during rush hour traffic.

Use of existing venues to keep costs down

LA 2028 may end up being one of the least costly Olympics in recent memory because of the existing venues already built in Los Angeles. For example Crypto.com Arena, Intuit Dome, LA Coliseum, and other venues and the beaches of course only need preparation work for the Games without massive construction projects. The main concern for the Games is the scheduling of the Games and coordinating with traffic and transportation options. It will also be important as to the closeness of the hotels and accommodations to the venues. With Los Angeles being in the Pacific Time Zone, it may be difficult with later scheduled events for viewers on the East Coast, and in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Of course streaming and recording can help with distribution.

Highlight the terrain and vistas to add to the beauty of the Games

The new outdoor sports coming to the 2028 Olympics will only highlight the amazing vistas of Los Angeles. From the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains to the Pacific Ocean and sights in between, the addition of outdoor sports like baseball, cricket, lacrosse, softball, flag football, and squash will highlight all Los Angeles has to offer. The technological developments with drones, cameras, streaming advancements in Hollywood and Silicon Beach, artificial intelligence, and maybe flying taxis and self-driving cars could help to not only bring brilliance to the Games, but also some efficiency. The addition of the aforementioned Games also highlight some of the most popular and growing sports in the United States, especially cricket.

America as a whole and Los Angeles in particular will get time to prepare and test some sporting venues during the World Cup in 2026. It will be an exciting next four years in America and for sports, entertainment, and media. LA 2028 has an opportunity to grow the popularity of the Games from the entertainment capital of the world. The essential point would be to present the Games in an easy way to consume online and in-person and to do it without politics and kid-friendly. Essentially, presenting sports for their greatness in highlighting human performance complimented by entertainment that spotlights Los Angeles and Southern California.
